Meredith and Bob lucked out with a 70 degree day on March 25th for their Mendenhall Inn wedding. I’d say this was the official start of Spring!
We started at Mendenhall Hotel where Meredith and her bridesmaids were getting ready. The moment we entered the hotel, we were greeted by an “Old World” sense of hospitality and charm. We made our way up to Meredith’s room and found the girls relaxing and enjoying some champagne. They had already had their hair and makeup done. Their hair was done by Jen at JMH Hair Studios. Makeup was done by Christina at MC. We had perfect light with all the large windows in the suite. Meredith told me that she is a lover of all things Disney so I was excited to see how she would incorporate this into her wedding day. I didn’t have to wait long…her dress was hanging on the cutest custom dress hanger with her soon to be last name and mouse ears. That is one I’ve never seen before! I shot Meredith’s Casablanca wedding gown in the bedroom window and the light came through the lace just gorgeously. I then moved onto jewelry and shoes. Meredith’s engagement ring was her mom’s and her wedding band her grandmother’s. The two looked like they were made to be a set with their simple elegance.
The bridesmaids had beautiful blush colored robes and Meredith a lovely white one; all embroidered with their initials. I love to get photos of the girls before they are dressed if possible, especially when they have such cute attire. The room had an amazing bathtub so we squeezed all the girls in for a great group shot. While the girls got dressed we took Meredith into the bedroom to photograph her getting into her gown with the help of her mom. She looked stunning! We asked everyone to give us a moment alone with Meredith to take bridal portraits. I think this gives the bride a bit of quiet before the day really gets going. We grabbed her bouquet from Belak Florists to complete her look. It was filled with pink Gerber daisies, hydrangeas and white roses and was wrapped in her grandmother’s handkerchief. It also had a beautiful charm with her dad’s photo. These personal touches are always a favorite of mine.
Then it was time to go see the groom. Bob and his groomsmen got ready at the couple’s home in Delaware. When we first arrived we met Bob and Meredith’s dog, Summer. She was so cute and excited! When we sat Bob down on the couch to get some portraits, Summer jumped right up next to him…it was perfect! We then headed outside to meet all the groomsmen. They were looking great in navy blue suits, blush ties and the Lymphoma awareness pins that Bob had given them. We got some photos on the back deck before heading to the church. The church was only about a block from their house and the weather was so nice that the guys actually walked. These are some of my favorite shots from the day!
We arrived at St. Helena’s Church just before the guys. This large church is adorned with beautiful stained glass throughout. While guests arrived, we got set up for the ceremony. Meredith and Bob exchanged vows during a lovely mass surrounded by family and friends. The couple was especially happy that Meredith’s 95 year old grandmother, Helen, could attend. We took some time for family formals in front of the gorgeous alter and then headed outside with Meredith and Bob to get a few shots with their dog, Summer. She was so excited…it was as if she knew what a special day it was!
The bridal party hopped on their trolley and headed to the amazing Nemours Mansion and Gardens for photos. Though the estate is currently closed for the season, Meredith and Bob were able to get special access for photos. The mansion and gardens are certainly a sight to be seen. The architecture and surrounding meadows made for the perfect backdrop for photos. We got some shots of the entire wedding party in front of the impressive columns at Nemours before letting them head back to the trolley. We then enjoyed some time with just Meredith and Bob as we wondered around the estate finding tons of picturesque spots to shoot. They were really an incredibly sweet couple to work with.
Then it was time to head back for their Mendenhall Inn wedding reception. While guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the terrace area, I was able to get shots of the beautifully decorated ballroom. The tables looked amazing with white linens and beautiful arrangements from Belak Florist. Instead of table numbers, the couple had Disney ride themed table names and the place cards were ride tickets…so cute! The Disney love continued with an adorable Minnie and Mickey Mouse on top of the always delicious Masters Baker cake. I think my favorite thing though was the couples monogram lit up on the dance floor. I’ve never seen that before!
After cocktail hour, the guests were ushered into the ballroom while the bridal party got ready for entrances. DJ Steve from VIP DJ Entertainment had everyone on their feet while he introduced the parents, wedding party and of course the bride and groom. Meredith and Bob danced in their monogram for their first dance as husband and wife. Part way through they invited their guests to join them on the dance floor. It was great to get some dancing in before dinner! Once everyone was seated again, dinner was served and a myriad of toasts began. My favorite line of the night came from one of Bob’s brothers, “If you can’t be good, be careful.” This was something their grandfather used to say and I think it’s quite perfect! After the speeches, Meredith danced with her oldest brother and Bob danced with his mom. Then they cut the cake and got the party started. It didn’t take long before the dance floor was brimming with dancers…some really good dancers might I add!
I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with Meredith and Bob and am thankful that they choose me to photograph their wedding day. This Mendenhall Inn wedding was perfect from start to finish. It is always a privilege to share in the love story of a couple and I know Meredith and Bob will live happily ever after. Please enjoy some photos and a slideshow below.
Mary Therese and Matthew’s Mendenhall Inn Wedding was such a great day filled with so much love. Matthew is a photographer as well and contacted me well over a year ago. I actually did not get to meet him and Mary Therese until about 2 months before their wedding. I knew immediately in meeting them that we were going to get along wonderfully on their wedding day. They were incredibly trusting, even when I asked Mary Therese to put her dress on in the foyer at her parents’ home because it is where the best light was. The ceremony was held at SS. Simon and Jude Church in West Chester. It was during the ceremony that I learned that Matthew and Mary Therese met because of their faith. Mary Therese is a music teacher. The children that she teaches sang during the wedding, which was so meaningful to the couple. After the ceremony, we headed to Stroud Preserve for bridal party and family photos. I then had the opportunity to take just the couple to Longwood Gardens for their portraits. Rarely on a wedding day is there time to take the couple to a separate location for photos, never mind two locations! This opportunity not only allowed for amazing photos, but also gave Mary Therese and Matthew some time to themselves on their wedding day, also something that never happens! After photos we headed to the Mendenhall Inn, where the staff took meticulous care to make their reception perfect. The service and attention to detail was impeccable. It was wonderful to spend the day with Mary Therese and Matthew and to meet their families and friends. I wish these two the best and cannot thank them enough for trusting me to capture their day.
